Staff Engineer - Network Engineering
Basic Purpose:

Works closely with Network Engineering Manager to select, design and deploy network equipment required to support Bresnan’s IP based services (voice, video and data) and Network Infrastructure.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for configuration and management of the Company’s core and regional transport platform(s). This will include various technologies such as SONET, DWDM, CWDM, etc.
  •  Responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of network equipment used for residential and commercial HSD ("High Speed Data"), and Digital Telephone service offerings.
  • Responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of methods, procedures and practices related to the Advanced Services infrastructure for HSD and VOD. This includes security, network monitoring, disaster recovery, testing, SONET, IP and VLAN management, network inventory, capacity planning, documentation, routing and various provisioning systems.
  • Responsible for assisting with testing and evaluation of networking products and services used in the IP based services (voice, video and data) and Network Infrastructure.
  • Researches and recommends hardware and software products to support IP network infrastructure.
  • Responsible for core network design and implementation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • BS/BSEE degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of technical experience with IP Networking skills.
  • Networking industry certifications desirable (CCxx, CCNA, CCNP, Network+, etc).
  • Working knowledge of HFC Broadband network architecture, CMTS access, and DOCSIS 1.x.
  • Working knowledge of Network Capacity Planning, Performance Monitoring/Management and Network Design Architecture.
  • Working knowledge of Networking Architecture and OSI Model; e.g. TCP/IP, ATM, SONET/SDH, RPR, DWDM, VPN's (IPSEC, PPTP), Frame Relay, 10/100/1000 Base-T, Wireless.
  • Experience with testing and troubleshooting networks with any of the following: protocol analyzers, bit error rate testers, traffic generators, and network packet sniffers.
  • Working knowledge of OSS Framework and processes - related to TMN Model ("Telecommunications Management Network").
  • Must have Cisco experience, designing, configuring, and deploying Cisco equipment.  Including working understanding of common routing concepts and protocols, including, RIP, RIPv2, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, Multicast, IPv6 and MPLS.
  • Ability to multi-task with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work non-standard hours as needed.
  • Personal computer skills, working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing software.
